It's one of the highish paying options with decent benefits. Management has bullied most of the best employees they had away. Management chats with their favorites while ridiculing everyone else. Management just wants compliments and everyone else to grind down and do the work. Simple.īeing a captioning agent can be a rewarding job so long as you remember the difference you are making for the hearing impaired. If you can pass the speed tests, you're hired. I've personally interviewed and took note of really rude applicants. If you just need money fast, you're hired. They count the seconds that you aren't on calls. If you can use the restroom faster than the Flash, you've made it. If you are fine with becoming a manager's favorite via compliments to have a chance at a promotion, then that's your business. If you are fine with management saying one thing and turning around to do something else entirely, good on you. If you're fine with good work scores being nit picked into feeling inadequate, then you'll do great. If you ask clarifying questions, you'll be judged, given half (or even wrong) answers, and then punished later for not knowing everything there is to know. If you love to compliment management, it's great. If you are good at keeping your head down, it's okay. If for some reason I didn't get a job in the field I'm studying for I would 1000% come back to CaptionCall in a heartbeat and to this day if anyone I know - more. You also have scheduled breaks that are picked by someone else which would be a pain at times but it's manageable. I would say 95% of any shift that I needed covered was picked up quickly The only downsides are if you're full time you get paid less but part-time gets paid more. They make it really easy to trade shifts too, you don't have to go around or tet a bunch of people asking if they can cover your shift, you just post it on the time board and everyone who works at Caption can see it and pick it up if they want to. They are also very understanding that you have a life outside of work, which I have never had at any other company I have worked for, so they will almost always try to work with you or help come up with a solution. They often have early outs you can sign up for if calls slow down. A lot of people may think you have to be a fast typer to get into this job but for the most part, you are speaking into a mic and correcting some words here and there that came out wrong. They also have work-from-home opportunities that I was able to participate in which really helped with my school schedule as well. The job was simple but satisfying knowing that every day you were helping people. The only reason I had to leave this company is that I started my program and would be starting internships soon. CaptionCall in Idaho Falls has great TLS and managers! They were all very flexible with my school schedule and accommodating.
